Frequently Asked Questions about sharemail-email server software

  1. When I start ShareMail, it always shows 'Port conflict', How to solve that?
    Answer: 'Port conflict' indicates that one port is being used by more then one service. ShareMail use following ports:

    *- Port 25, for SMTP server;

    *- Port 25, for SMTP server;

    *- Port 110, for POP3 server;

    *- Port 112, for POP3 Proxy;

    *- Port 3128, remote control;

    To solve the problem, please change ShareMail's port, or change the other application's configuration.
    In addition, it will also cause 'port conflict' if ShareMail has already start in NT service, but Administrator to run it again.

    To find who is using this port, you can use FPort, a port scanner software, to detect the application. Download FPort

  2. Why I can send emails, but can't receive emails?
    Answer: Your settings in email application software must be wrong. Please check the settings of you email software in Client computer.
  3. Can I receive the reply message if the 'Reply-To' field is NULL?
    Answer: Yes, you can receive the reply message. The reason to leave the field empty is that most email software will check the 'Reply-To' field, and use the address in the field for reply. If the field is NULL, the address in 'From' field will be used.
    If you want to set the ' Reply-To ' field, follow the format below, or you can't get reply message. It's better to leave it empty.

    Software Name    Format
    Netscape    alex <you@mail.com>
    Outlook Express   <you@mail.com>
  4. ShareMail can't send mail out, Log shows '421 Service Not Ready', but I send the mails out with other software?
    Answer: Usually, error 421 appears when SMTP server does not response.
    SMTP server works in multi-process or multi-thread mode. Though other software may send emails out, we can't compare such results together, since even the 2 requests come at the same time, one may be accepted and the other may be dropped. If it appears only on a few occasions, there is usually no problem. But if you always get the error, that maybe indicate an error somewhere, in that case, please inform us with error logs as soon as possible.
  5. ShareMail can't send emails out, error log is 'SMTP_ RCPT_ CMD: 550 xxxxx, Relaying Denied'.
    Answer: 'Relaying denied' error message appears when connecting to an SMTP-server from e.g. a dynamic IP address where the server tries to recursively tries to detect correct domainname <-> IP address and fails to get it - since only members are allowed to send via this server. Other scenario: you fisrst have to authenticate via questioning POP3 server before getting allowance to send via this server.
  6. Will I lose emails if the connection is broken at the moment of ShareMail receiving and sending mails?
    Answer: No, unless you shut down ShareMail when it's working.
  7. Can ShareMail recongnize multiple addresses in 'TO & CC' field?
    Answer: Yes, ShareMail supports multiple addresses in TO and CC fields.
  8. How to use ShareMail behind Firewall or Proxy?
    Answer: ShareMail use SOCKSv5 to go through the proxy server. To make sure that there is no port conflict if install ShareMail and Proxy in the same computer.
  9. Does computer name must be identical the name of private mailbox in ShareMail?
    Answer: No, there is not any relationship between them.
  10. How many users does ShareMail support?

  11. How to write email to private mailbox address from Internet?
    Answer:It is very important to use correct email address when write to some private mailbox address. Because different email software process email in different ways, it will cause error if the email address to some private mailbox addressee is incorrect.
    For example, Outlook Express will transfer email address "Alex" <you@mail.com> into "\"Alex \""<you@mail.com>, if you type the address from keyboard, so an error will turn out. But there is no such problem in Netscape 3.0.  ShareMail can identify 3 types of address;
