- Which version of Windows does ezProxy support?
Answer: ezProxy can work with all version of Windows. It also supports multiple languages: English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
- When I start ezProxy, an error of "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." is appeared, how to resolve?
Answer: This is due some system files missing on your PC. Please install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package
- Does it support 64bit OS?
Answer: Although ezProxy is a 32bit application, but it runs wellunder 64bit OS.
- Does ezProxy support ADSL, and dial it automatically??
Answer: Yes, but you need to install RasPPPoE which will make ADSL integrate into windows dial-up networking.
- How many network interface does ezProxy support?
Answer: There is no limit, but for every proxy service, there are only 2 options for interface binding: binding to a single interface and binding to all interface.
- How to keep a backup for ezProxy configuration?
Answer: In menu "Options" - "TroubleShooting", press the button "Export Configuration" to get the file.
- How to restore the setting in another computer?
Answer: Well, firstly, you should install ezProxy in that computer. Second, copy "dns.txt" and "dnscache.txt" from old location to the new place. Third, goto windows registry, export
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\LavaSoft\ezProxy" to an external file, then import it into the new computer. At last, run ezProxy in the new place, and check if the listening ip address of each service should be modified.
- What does the information "Adm: 1 User:5 Conn:15" mean?
Answer: It often shows like that "Adm: 1 User:5 Conn:15". The first section "Adm" stands for the current administrator number, the second is user number and the last one is total concurrent connection number.
- I forget the admistrator password, how to restore it?
Answer: In the proxy computer, goto windows registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\LavaSoft\ezProxy\Setting", set "AdminBinding" to "127.0.0.1" and "AdminPass" to "MTIzNA==", then ezproxy will back to initial state.
- How do I administrate ezProxy from a remote computer?
Answer: the ezProxy manager can be used from any machine with a TCP/IP connection to the ezProxy machine. You need only copy ezProxy.exe and all the files with the "lng" extension to the remote computer. There is no need to install ezProxy again.
- I have met "Connect proxy failed, socket error 10061" in ezProxy manager, How to solve?
Answer: First of all, check which ip address do you used for remote control. Goto "log" folder to find "sys" log file in ezProxy. You would find such line "16:12:32;service [remote control:127.0.0.1:7532] starting". From this message, you could know the IP address and port used by remote control. Then when you do ezProxy Manger login, you must use the correct address to login. Attention, if address is 127.0.0.1, you can not login unless on the same host.
- How to view/clear the cache ?
Answer: ezProxy shares the cache with Internet Explorer . You can manage the cache through 'Internet Options' in I.E
- The setting seems correct, but proxy still does not work.
Answer: First check if the Host Computer can access Internet properly. Then check if you have set a ban list. Check also if the default service action has been set to "forbid" and so has stopped the operation. If you think that all the settings are correct, please send the log file and settings to us. You can get a configuration report in the "Options-TroubleShooting" tab. Please email the log and this information to lavasoft@lavasoftware.net. Please compress the files before sending.
- Can I add one user in different group?
Answer: No, you can not do that. Each user only belongs to one group. Otherwise, ezProxy would have problem of finding which group should use.
- In my network, only authenticated computers could access internet. Why they still can access internet even without authentication. How do I correct this?
Answer: In general case, this is because you have not disable privileges in ".Default" group. In ezProxy, ".Default" group manages all unknown users, including those computers without authentication.
- How to use "NT Domain" type user?
Answer: This type of user is defined for the network which build Window Domains. The user would not need to do proxy authentication again if he logon the domain successfully. To activate this feature, the proxy should be installed in domain controller.
- Why not show computer name in the log file when the client coming from a remote network?
Answer: If the client from a remote network, we can not ensure to get its computer name because there are routers and other network devices in the road, some information can not pass through them, and some information would become meaningless, such as MAC address. Moreover, we suggest you hide those information because retrieving them will take long time, decrease proxy perfomance, so if you do not care these information: computer name, MAC address, nt domain name, Hide them.
- Why I can not login 'ezClient' with correct password?
Answer: Please check if any other people also use this account. In default setting, ezProxy would not allow multiple people using same account at same time. If you really need this feature, enable the checkbox of "Permit multiple people using same account".
- How do I send and receive mails with ezProxy?
Answer: Let's take an example to see how to get mails through ezProxy. Client using OutlookExpress, email account is "myemail@mycompany.com", smtp server is "smtp.mycompany.com", pop3 server is "pop.mycompany.com".
ezProxy must create POP3 and SMTP proxy service.
In client email softwares.
Receive mails:
Set the "Pop3 Server" to ezProxy's IP address. In the "POP3 Account" field,
enter the user name given to you by your POP server and your POP server's host name.
Use this format: user name # pop3 server address.
In our example, it should be "myemail#pop.mycompany.com".
Send mails:
Set the "Smtp Server" to ezProxy's IP address. Must enable "Smtp server require
authentication" option, then set "Login Username" in following format:
If your smtp server does not require "Smtp Authentication", you should set the
"Login Username" as "#smtp server address".
Example, "#smtp.mycompany.com".
If your smtp server also needs "Smtp Authentication", you should set the "Login
Username" as "login name#smtp server address".
Example: "myemail#smtp.mycompany.com".
- When I start ezProxy , it always shows " Port conflict " , How to solve that ?
Answer: This is because more than one application use the same port . Change the port number to avoid port confliction.
ezProxy use ports below as default ports.
- 7532 ,for proxy server remote administration
- 7530 ,for proxy server authentication
- 7536 ,for proxy automatic configuration
There would be another case that no matter how you change the port , you always meet "port conflict" problem. The reason maybe ezProxy is running as a
NT service . You can not run TWO handles of ezProxy at the same time.
If you still do not know which occupies the port, you can use a port scanner software to find which application uses this port. Download FPort
- How to access ftp server in my browser?
Answer: There are 2 ways to access remote ftp server. The simple one is just set ftp proxy address and port same as http proxy address and port. Web browser will process ftp request by http protocol specification. Another method is set ftp proxy address like such format "ftp://proxyip", and set the port number to ftp proxy port number.
- I have enable "Meta & Title Filtering" option, why still can access the unhealthy web page?
Answer: In order to keep high speed and performance, ezProxy does not scan all the data, only the Title and Meta contents in HEAD section. Generally, a web page uses "Title" and "Meta" section to give a brief description. Reading this partial data would be enough to guess the whole contents. So if the keyword doest not appear in this section, ezproxy would regard it as a good web page.
- My software does not support proxy, how to pass through proxy?
Answer: ezProxy is application level proxy, so must set proxy address and port in client softwares. There are 2 ways to solve the problem. One is using TcpMapping if the software using simple tcp connection, another way is using SocksCap. However, for some complicated softwares, these solution are also helpless.
- What log file should I provide if I met some problems?
Answer: ezProxy has 3 major type of log files. Their file extension are SYS, ACT and ERR. All of them are very important for solving problems. For example, if you met problem on 2004.07.23, then goto "log" directory to find files 20040723.sys, 20040723.act, 20040723.err. Send them with the troubleshooting report file to us. This would help us solve your problem as soon as possible.
- Why there are so many files under 'debug' subfolder, what are they?
Answer: ezProxy will store system debug files and traffic debug files in 'debug' subfolder. These files are useful only when ezproxy meet fatal errors. In normal status, they are useless. Disable the "system debug" checkbox in "Options-"Others", and remove the check of "Request" , "Respond" and "State" in "Session" page in service properties.
- How to deal with ezproxy log files, can I get some statistics?
Answer: Yes, we provide a tool called "ezLog" to process the log files. With its help, you can get how many bytes transfered by a user, and which server is more favourable. ezLog can also convert it to Squid1.1 format file so that you could use some 3rd party softwares to analyize network activities.
Note: any earlier version before ezLog v1.5 can not recognize the log data generated by ezProxyv2.6.3 or later.
- How to use Webtrends LogAnalyzer?
Answer: First, use ezLog convering origional data file into 'Squid1.1' format files, then you could use LogAnalyzer to generate summary report.
